Burunduky kŕmime raz denne, základ stravy tvoria semená rôznych druhov rastlín. Je možné kúpiť už namiešanú zmes pre veveričky, ale samozrejme dá sa použiť aj väčšina zmesí pre hlodavce. Veveričky môžte kŕmiť všetkými druhmi semien a jadier, okrem mandlí, ktoré sú pre ne kvôli obsahu kyanovodíka smrteľne jedovaté!!! Najjednoduchšie je kúpiť už hotové kŕmne zmesi alebo granulované krmivá. K tomu je dobré jedálniček obohatiť napríklad o lieskové, búrske aj vlašské oriešky alebo žalude, tekvicové či píniové semienka, bukvicu a šípky.Okrem semien podávame skoro všetky druhy zeleniny, ovocia, bobúľ a plodov. Na jar je dobré dávať do klietky čerstvo narezané konáre z ovocných stromov alebo z vŕby. Veveričky vetvy ohlodávájú a tým si zabrusujú zúbky. Aj keď majú pravidelne šťavnaté kŕmenie, vodu musia mať neustále k dispozícii! Živočíšne kŕmenie pokryjete najlepšie dávkou múčnych červov, sarančiat alebo cvrčkov. Potrebné je dodať im aj minerálnu soľ na lízanie a sépiovú kosť.
